I am a registered nurse, photographer, certified lamaze instructor
and breastfeeding specialist. I have been passionate about normal
birth and breastfeeding for over 35 years. I believe we need to empower
mothers to birth normally, without interventions, unless medically
necessary. Thanks for getting out there to encourage women.

I was pleased to be contacted about being a part of this wonferful
play/experience. I hope when it comes to Hartford in September, it
will be well advertised and made available to everyone!!
I am an LDRP nurse and lactation consultant. Women owe it to themselves
to advocate for their bodies as well as their babies.

Hello,
I just found your site - Thank you! Thank you! It always astounds me
how little birth is part of popular culture, cinema, music and art.
It is (was) the defining moment of all of lives, was it not? Our safe
or not so safe journey into the world. It is the time when fathers
are born and mothers bloom. When women, birthing many ways, discover
how strong they truly are. I would love to present this play and hope
I can find a way to be part of labor day 2006.

Hello,
My name is Susan Cortez and I live in Northern California in the
East Bay Area. I attended the showing of Birth in San Jose just yesterday
and enjoyed it very much! The play struck a cord in me about a reality
that is true for many women, and that is that we have a hard time
honoring our own inner truth. It was a great portrayal of the gammit
of thoughts and emotion many women experience in pregnancy and birth
today.

I went to see the play in Richmond, VA a few weeks ago. It was fantastic
and refreshing!!! I had two beautiful, wonderful, natural birth experiences,
but I know everyone's experiences are their own. I loved hearing all
the different points of view. Seeing the play has made me realize,
that I really need to pursue becoming a Bradley birth instructor. Thank
you so much.

I am looking forward to attending the play in Feb. This is just what
our community needs to celebrate birth. Thank you for bringing such
a wonderful event to our communities and reminding all of us that
women do know how to give birth!

I saw the play Birth this past July in Washington, DC. My 17 year old
grandaughter also accompanied me. It was awesome. These weren't actress
these were women voicing how so many of us have felt! My grandaughter
was very impressed and wore her "My Body Rocks" shirt proudly.
Thank you. If and when you come to Jacksonville, Florida I'll be there!

As a CNM, former Peace Corps Volunteer, and most importantly (from
the standpoint of the play) a ‘survivor’ of four normal
spontaneous vagina deliveries without epidural, ultrasounds, episiotomies,
tears or gloved hands in my uterus – I am intrigued and can’t
wait to see the play! Natural does not begin to describe the birth
experience in the U.S.A. – more people need to be educated about
the potential for birth and forget their technological expectations.
I say: Trust in the process.
Congratulations to Karen! Thank you for all your hard work and efforts
for women, infants and significant others!

I was privileged to attend the performance of Birth at the DONA Conference in Washington DC, on July 23, 2005. I commend
you on your ability to show all the variables of birth-- the emotional,
physical and mental challenges without pulling any punches.
I could have sat there all night, listening to the stories,
and watching your DC cast become those various women. They were more
than characters reading a script. They were living, breathing women
brought to life by a wonderful cast of actors (truly!) and the words
you lovingly penned for them to speak gives testimony to pain, power
and joy that is (or can be!) childbirth, and to the strength of women
giving birth—and
supporting each other in birth.
You are giving testimony to the fact that birth is a
peak-life experience, that the importance that the choices we make
surrounding our birth is more than a single day in just the woman’s
life (or in the life of her family) and that we must take-charge and
own the responsibility of those choices.
Thank you for Birth, which is was apparently truly a "labor
of love."
Blessing and continued best wishes and success,
Please check out my comments about the play at: http://millinersdream.blogspot.com/2005/08/birth-play-not-movie.html

I heard about "Birth the Play" from the May-June 05 issue
of Mothering Magazine. I was hoping it was coming to my hometown (Las
Vegas, NV), and after visiting the web site, I'm thrilled to see it
is scheduled to be here
this fall!
I am a mother of 3 homebirthed children (3 yo girl and 1.5 yo b/g
twins). I am a member of a LVMoms, a local mom's group who embrace
natural birth and attachment style parenting. We are all looking forward
to this play and are happy that it will be here soon!

Karen, I met you at the La Leche League International conference in
D.C. What a concept! I told you that at the Chicago LLLI Conference,
a group of women and I went to see the Vagina Monologues. I can't wait
to see "Birth." I live near Boston, am a labor and delivery
nurse and have birthed three healthy children, now young adults. My
body DOES rock!

I heard about your play through a birth-related e-mail list that
I subscribe to. The Pacific Northwest has a large and active birth
community, and we would love to see your play up here! It sounds
wonderful, and we are hoping that you might consider heading up
the West coast while you're out here next spring. Keep up the good
work!
