What is the BOLD Truth Initiative?

The BOLD Truth Initiative is the "action" component carried out by our BOLD organizers. Each BOLD location works hard to make BOLD happen in their community. Through The BOLD Truth Initiative, we want to make sure that knowledge - the story of birth told directly by mothers - has the highest possible impact to influence change.

BOLD asks every BOLD organizer to identify three key people locally, nationally or internationally who they think could help make maternity care mother-friendly in their community. The BOLD organizer then videotapes their event and sends that tape, along with supporting documents, to all three leaders. In some communities BOLD organizers will request a meeting with these leaders to tell them more about their birthing climate, in other cases BOLD organizers will simply plant the seeds for change by sending their video to these leaders.

In 2007 BOLD organizers have chose to send their BOLD videos to a wide range of leaders that include: the media, state governors, congressmen and senators, foundation leaders (Melinda Gates!), maternity care providers, the public library, lead singers (of Sweet Honey and the Rock!) and celebrities.

At BOLD we believe changing maternity care and making it more mother-friendly is possible. The BOLD Truth Initiative is our way of getting the truth about maternity care to powerful leaders who can make a difference.
