 Ina May's Guide to Childbirth
by Ina May Gaskin
Spiritual Midwifery
by Ina May Gaskin
If
you're pregnant run, don' t walk, to get these two books (and if you're
planning a birth with a midwife...sprint!).
For those of you who don't know, Ina May Gaskin is considered the "mother of
midwifery" and her books are simply the truth about childbirth. She doesn't mess
around. Spiritual Midwifery, written years ago and now
a classic, may put you off because of its earthy-crunchy title and focus on homebirths,
but in it Ina May is showing people what birth without intervention is all about.
How if you leave birth alone most women can birth their babies just fine.
For the modern reader thankfully she has written a more recent book, Ina
May's Guide to Childbirth, that again focuses on birth without interventions,
stressing that women's body's know how to give birth. If only they would not
think their bodies are lemons. What a great point. I couldn't agree more which
is why in my play I just HAD to use her "Your body is not a lemon" quote from
her book. Listen up mothers...it's not. Believe in yourselves. Many good things
in birth and life can come from believing in your power.
That's all...now go buy the book and join our discussion with Ina May in December!
