Toledo, Ohio

I loaded up the car the night before our performance after 2 days of tech rehearsals...then at the theater setting up at 8:30am. Dress rehearsal from 9-12. We had a nice relaxing lunch at a tea shop, with pictures and stories and we were all back at the theater by five. Our director was up the whole night before and also the afternoon working on a slide program to project on the screen behind the actors.

5-6 was the last minute rehearsal, with me running around setting up ticket sales table, and other last minute tasks. 6:30 people started coming, doors opened and the excitement was intoxicating.

My music cue did not work but I finally went out and did my welcome speech. (I was very nervous But when it was for real in front of an audience...I came through!)

Then it started, one story after another going VERY well. No major mistakes, some lighting problems, but great overall. During intermission I could tell everyone was enjoying it. We were all interviewed by a local television station.

The second act was even better! Jillian made us laugh, Natalie and Sandy made us cry. The cast got a standing ovation and the audience response was very positive.

Our panel was an OB, a pediatrician, 2 Certified Nurse Midwives, a Doula and a tv newscaster who was the consumer. I started out with a question about birth plans and it went from there. opics ranged from c-sects, immunizations, home birth, insurance providers to doulas and infant loss and permanent birth control. I was surprised at the turn the discussions took but the panel did a good job and someone even raved about her good OB which was a good end to the discussion.

Everyone I spoke to after the performance said the play was riveting, truthful, well-written and very much needed in our community.

We also had the "real" Jillian and her whole family who had never seen the play before. I am already thinking about next year and things I would change. Am I crazy??

A friend gave me a magnet that said, "Think big, if that dosen't work, THINK BIGGER!” So BOLD women, Think bigger for next year!
