Truth inspires change. When we are honest about a situation we feel good - authentic - and often our truth encourages others to speak up making change possible. BOLD encourages women to tell truthful birth stories and for all people to seek truthful information about pregnancy and childbirth before making decisions or offering advice.

How can you tell the TRUTH?

  • Tell us your birth story. As you write think about what you heard, read or were told when you were pregnant or giving birth and how that effected your birth decisions. Tell us your favorite moments and not-so-favorite moments of the birth. Click HERE to email your birth story.

  • Be open-minded to reading childbirth books that are not the bestsellers. Listen to what these authors tell you and decide if it makes sense. Remember, there are many sides to a story. For a list of inspiring books click HERE. Join the BOLD Book Club! Click HERE.

  • Be open to the truth and not attached to one particular truth. What we believe in manifests. If we believe birth is not safe, it will not be safe. Choose to believe birth is normal. This does not mean not recognizing that some pregnant women are high-risk and need serious medical monitoring. Instead we’re asking you to refuse to have low expectations for maternity care. Believe women can do it. Birth is normal. What you think about expands.

  • Decide to be kind instead of right. Remember that your truth is not always someone else’s truth. When someone is not wanting to hear your reasons why they should have the birth you want them to have, give away only love and be kind. Loving-kindness and compassion is the solution, not anger or blame and resentment.

  • Insist on truth from your care provider. If you are seeking information and your care provider will not give it then switch care providers. If your gut tells you your care provider is not being honest find another provider. Trust yourself. Find a quiet place and listen to your gut.
